New beginnings for Golden bike shop Big Ring Cycles

Big Ring Cycles is a proud Champion Business Member of Bicycle Colorado. This sponsored post will give you ideas for how to get involved with this local shop! Thank you to Big Ring for their generous support of bicycle advocacy.

Big Ring Cycles Grand Re-Opening

When the dust clears on Big Ring Cycles’ 1600-square-foot expansion in just a few days, guests and bike enthusiasts will find much more than a comfortable couch and espresso.

“It’s about creating community. We’ve invested in creating an environment for people to feel welcome, hang out and connect with other cyclists,” said Seth Wolins, the shop’s owner. “We’ve made service a strategic focus.”

In addition to an expanded service area now staffed by some of the best talent in the area, Big Ring Cycles’ remodeled space includes an indoor bike wash and fully automated parts cleaner. “A world class drivetrain cleaning can significantly extend the life of components; the better your bike works, the more you will enjoy your ride,” says Wolins.

After months of remodeling, they’re looking forward to revealing their updated space with a weekend-long celebration from May 17-20. The celebration will feature group rides, e-bike demos, vendors on hand, a Big Ring Cycles custom cocktail and more. On Friday, May 18, guests are invited to celebrate the remodel, as well as two years under new leadership, with a big after-hours party. Wolins quietly purchased Big Ring Cycles from founder Scott Mormon in May 2016 with a goal to make the transition smooth and comfortable for both customers and employees. Mormon remained with Big Ring until May 2017 and the shop continues to represent unique brands including Parlee, Moots, Pinarello, Rocky Mountain, Bianchi and Cannondale. The recent addition of Trek expands the range of offerings.

Please plan to join them for some or all of the festivities listed below!

Connecting and supporting cyclists

Wolins’ knowledge, passion and history with bikes is evident in the collection of vintage bikes and bike parts on display at Big Ring Cycles. After working in bike shops throughout his youth and racing for years, Wolins currently serves on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame and has been a test rider for Shimano for more than 20 years. As this article was being written, Wolins is packing for a flight to New Jersey to support the Officers Unity Tour, a three-day ride from New Jersey to D.C. in honor of fallen officers as a volunteer mechanic.

Connecting people through bicycling is important to Big Ring and the shop is committed to building a cycling community on the front range. In addition to weekly Thursday night group road rides, the shop organizes numerous events throughout the year from fat bike events to women’s tech clinics. At last year’s First Annual Colorado Women’s Ride Day, 90 women ranging from novice riders to seasoned veterans road on women-led mountain bike and road rides.

“We love connecting and supporting women cyclists and are looking forward to our Second Women’s Ride Day on August 5th,” says store manager Helen Gardner.

 About Big Ring Cycles

“Ride as much or as little, or as long or as short as you feel. But ride.”- Eddy Merckx.

At Big Ring Cycles, we are passionate about one thing: the bicycle. We believe that the world would be a better, more cheerful place if more people rode bicycles more often. We’re about the wind in your face and the sun on your back. We’re about tan lines, the kind that never disappear. We’re about long climbs, followed by fast descents. We’re about commuting, recreating and, of course, racing. We’re about tradition. We’re about passion. And we’re about community. We are Big Ring Cycles, and we’re here to change the world, one bike at a time.

We are proud to be a part of a vibrant Colorado cycling community. We support COMBA, JeffCo Open Space, RacerX Cycling, Bike Ambassadors, Golden Optimist Club … and, of course, Bicycle Colorado, our state bicycle advocacy organization! We at Big Ring encourage membership with Bicycle Colorado to businesses and individuals alike to grow our collective impact.

We’re thrilled to see so many people out enjoying (and often rediscovering the joy of) riding a bike right now, and we’re asking ALL bicyclists to do their part to prevent the spread of #covid19 by wearing a mask or other face covering when out for a ride. Doing so keeps you, your loved ones, those around you, and all Coloradans safer while helping reduce stress on our medical system. If you still need a mask, click the link in our bio to pre-order one now and support our advocacy work! Thanks so much to everyone who has already purchased, and to @primalwear for supporting our efforts over the years. Ride on.
  • #BicycleColorado volunteers and staff members spent time today helping @denverurbangardens and @denverfoodrescue deliver “Grow a Garden” food boxes to home-bound families in Denver—via bike! Supporting our community on two wheels makes for a great way to spend a sunny day. Many thanks to our friends @ddchen47, David M., and @juggernautcargo for your help! Head to denverfoodrescue.org or dug.org to learn more about these great local organizations. #rideyourbike
  • Tonight the #BicycleColorado team celebrated Stacey, our outgoing Development Director, with a virtual happy hour. Stacey has been an absolute rockstar for BC. We’re sad to see her leave, but thrilled for her as she heads out on a new adventure (hopefully in the #BikeAdvocacy space!) in North Carolina. Please join us in wishing her well!
