Governor Hickenlooper signs Safe Routes bill into law
On Tuesday, June 3, 2014, Governor Hickenlooper signed HB1301 into law, funding the state’s Safe Routes to School program. As passed, the bill will allocate $700,000 to fund Colorado Safe Routes program for the 2015-16 school year. The Safe Routes program teaches students across the state how to safely bicycle and walk to school.
The effort was backed by a wonderful coalition of health, transportation and community groups. Since the inception of the program, Bicycle Colorado has had educational outreach to more than 50,000 students, and we’ll continue to look for ways to keep the program viable in the future.
We’d like to thank Governor Hickenlooper for signing this vital bill into law and our members and donors, who make our successes possible.
