Welcome to Colorado Bike Month!

As you are probably aware, Colorado celebrates bike month in June (instead of May like most of the country) to hopefully have better weather for bicycling in our communities at higher elevations. So, let’s see what’s happening!

First off, we are hosting a giveaway for tickets to Velorama, the bicycling festival August 11-13 in Denver featuring pro racing, amazing concerts and a packed expo area, including Denver Flea. We’ll give away two sets of tickets each week (starting June 9) with a final VIP grand prize package giveaway at the end of the month! Join or renew today to be entered. Already a monthly member? We’ve got your back – you’re in. Not sure about joining? See full contest rules here.

While you’re at it, you should also sign up for the National Bike Challenge if you haven’t yet. This year’s challenge is tracking everyone’s miles through Strava, and both transportation and recreational miles count. Let’s log some miles and make Colorado a top contender nationally!

With the cycling season kicking into high gear, we’ll have our tent out at several organized events. Riding Elephant Rock? We’ll see you there. Denver Century Ride on Saturday, June 17? Check. We’ll be there! Look for us.

Want to think about trying a new urban cycling adventure? Check out this guest blog post from a Bicycle Colorado member for inspiration.

Also look for us on Bike to Work Day, Wednesday, June 28. We’ll be out at multiple locations, including Civic Center Park and REI in Denver, the Boulder B-cycle office at 38th and Arapahoe in Boulder and more to be announced! There are all sorts of Bike to Work Day activities happening across the state. Let us know what your area is doing that’s fun and unusual.

We hope you’re as excited as we are about Bike to Work Month! It’s a great time to get out and ride, and to help mentor a newer rider to introduce them to the joys of cycling.

We’re thrilled to see so many people out enjoying (and often rediscovering the joy of) riding a bike right now, and we’re asking ALL bicyclists to do their part to prevent the spread of #covid19 by wearing a mask or other face covering when out for a ride. Doing so keeps you, your loved ones, those around you, and all Coloradans safer while helping reduce stress on our medical system. If you still need a mask, click the link in our bio to pre-order one now and support our advocacy work! Thanks so much to everyone who has already purchased, and to @primalwear for supporting our efforts over the years. Ride on.
  • #BicycleColorado volunteers and staff members spent time today helping @denverurbangardens and @denverfoodrescue deliver “Grow a Garden” food boxes to home-bound families in Denver—via bike! Supporting our community on two wheels makes for a great way to spend a sunny day. Many thanks to our friends @ddchen47, David M., and @juggernautcargo for your help! Head to denverfoodrescue.org or dug.org to learn more about these great local organizations. #rideyourbike
  • Tonight the #BicycleColorado team celebrated Stacey, our outgoing Development Director, with a virtual happy hour. Stacey has been an absolute rockstar for BC. We’re sad to see her leave, but thrilled for her as she heads out on a new adventure (hopefully in the #BikeAdvocacy space!) in North Carolina. Please join us in wishing her well!
