Safe Routes passes in the House, Needs your help in Senate

On April 11, the Colorado House of Representatives passed the Safe Routes to School Act, HB 14-1301, on a 42-20 vote with $700,000 in state funding. We asked you to reach out to your state representatives to voice your support for the Safe Routes to School program, and your voices were heard. Because of your action, the bill was passed and will be heard next in the State Senate. Thank you so much for your support.

We need your help telling state senators to support Safe Routes to School

The bill will be heard in the Senate Transportation Committee Thurs., April 24. With the 2014 legislative session ending in just three weeks, we need your help again (and quickly) to reach out to your state senator to support the Safe Routes to School Act.

Call or email your state senator today and ask for support of House Bill 1301 — Safe Routes to School

Now is the time for every Colorado Senator to hear that child safety and health is a priority in Colorado.

  • Enter your home address near the top of http://openstates.org/
  • Select your senator to see his/her phone and email

STEP 2: CALL AND EMAIL YOUR STATE SENATOR

  • Ask for support of House Bill 1301
  • Give your name and address so they know you live in their district
  • Tell them that Safe Routes to School is a worthwhile investment in keeping kids safe and improving their health
  • Learn more about the bill and program here
STEP 3: TELL YOUR FRIENDS!
Elected officials say that even five phone calls and emails in support of a bill are a lot! Asking for their support can put the bill on their radar (when it may not be) and show that their constituents want this program in their community.

Safe Routes to School Act path to law

  • Introduced in the House Representatives
  • Passed by the House Transportation Committee
  • Passed by House Appropriations Committee

We’re thrilled to see so many people out enjoying (and often rediscovering the joy of) riding a bike right now, and we’re asking ALL bicyclists to do their part to prevent the spread of #covid19 by wearing a mask or other face covering when out for a ride. Doing so keeps you, your loved ones, those around you, and all Coloradans safer while helping reduce stress on our medical system. If you still need a mask, click the link in our bio to pre-order one now and support our advocacy work! Thanks so much to everyone who has already purchased, and to @primalwear for supporting our efforts over the years. Ride on.
  • #BicycleColorado volunteers and staff members spent time today helping @denverurbangardens and @denverfoodrescue deliver “Grow a Garden” food boxes to home-bound families in Denver—via bike! Supporting our community on two wheels makes for a great way to spend a sunny day. Many thanks to our friends @ddchen47, David M., and @juggernautcargo for your help! Head to denverfoodrescue.org or dug.org to learn more about these great local organizations. #rideyourbike
  • Tonight the #BicycleColorado team celebrated Stacey, our outgoing Development Director, with a virtual happy hour. Stacey has been an absolute rockstar for BC. We’re sad to see her leave, but thrilled for her as she heads out on a new adventure (hopefully in the #BikeAdvocacy space!) in North Carolina. Please join us in wishing her well!
