Bicycles represented on Highway Safety Plan Steering Committee

The Colorado Strategic Highway Safety Plan identifies highway safety issues and recommends focus areas for spending, which has historically been around $30 million. These dollars help pay for projects such as Click it or Ticket (seat belt enforcement and education) and the Heat is On (DUI enforcement and education).

Dan Grunig, our executive director, has been appointed to the steering committee that will work on setting recommendations for the 2014 plan. He’ll bring Bicycle Colorado’s expertise on how to increase safety for bicyclists, pedestrians, and everyone who uses our roads to the discussion.

The number of total miles driven in Colorado is dropping while the number of people commuting on bikes is increasing. We believe it’s critical for bicycle and pedestrian safety issues to receive appropriate attention and funding, and by representing the interests of our most vulnerable road users, we can increase safety for all.
