Thank you for contributing to Bicycle Colorado in memory of Dan

Daniel Jerome Spira passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021 due to injuries caused by a collision with a car while on his bicycle. An avid cyclist, Dan raced criterions, cyclocross and road, gravel, urban and mountain events. He trained at every opportunity and was beloved and admired by his teammates on the DBC Racing Team.  Dan’s family is asking loved ones to donate in honor of Dan to support Bicycle Colorado, the statewide bike advocacy and education nonprofit serving Colorado.

Dan was loved and adored by his family for his enthusiasm and persistence. He enjoyed spending time with family—racing sailboats with his dad, dining with his sister, rollerblading with his brother, spoiling his nieces and nephew, and celebrating the holidays together. He worked as a bike mechanic, ski technician and bicycle courier, and he composed numerous electronic music tracks and performed as a DJ at events in Denver.

Dan is survived by his parents David Spira and Shirleyan Price, his grandmother Marjorie Price, his brother Jeremy Spira, his sister Heather Holden, and his twin cats Fritz the Cat and Leeloo Dallas Multipass.

Your gift to Bicycle Colorado in Dan’s memory will be applied to an initiative very important to Dan’s family and friends, the Bicycle-Friendly Driver program. The public health crisis of fatalities and serious injuries from traffic crashes is growing, and people outside of cars are most at risk. Your support of this program helps us fill in some of the educational gaps for drivers on Colorado roads. Bicycle Colorado’s goal is to ensure that the 4.2 million drivers in Colorado (and by default most bicyclists) are certified as a bicycle-friendly driver.

Your contribution today will continue Dan’s legacy. Together, we are making a difference in road safety to make the conditions Daniel wanted to see a reality. Thank you.

A heartfelt thank you

On behalf of the staff and volunteers at Bicycle Colorado, we thank you for honoring Dan in this special way. Your gift will help us make strides toward our shared vision of a Colorado where all bicyclists can ride safely. We are grateful for this support, and we will continue our efforts to make Colorado roads and trails safer for all.

Bicycle Colorado is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Your donation may be tax-deductible to the full extent of the law, and you will receive a donation receipt. Thank you for your generous donation!

We’re thrilled to see so many people out enjoying (and often rediscovering the joy of) riding a bike right now, and we’re asking ALL bicyclists to do their part to prevent the spread of #covid19 by wearing a mask or other face covering when out for a ride. Doing so keeps you, your loved ones, those around you, and all Coloradans safer while helping reduce stress on our medical system. If you still need a mask, click the link in our bio to pre-order one now and support our advocacy work! Thanks so much to everyone who has already purchased, and to @primalwear for supporting our efforts over the years. Ride on.
  • #BicycleColorado volunteers and staff members spent time today helping @denverurbangardens and @denverfoodrescue deliver “Grow a Garden” food boxes to home-bound families in Denver—via bike! Supporting our community on two wheels makes for a great way to spend a sunny day. Many thanks to our friends @ddchen47, David M., and @juggernautcargo for your help! Head to denverfoodrescue.org or dug.org to learn more about these great local organizations. #rideyourbike
  • Tonight the #BicycleColorado team celebrated Stacey, our outgoing Development Director, with a virtual happy hour. Stacey has been an absolute rockstar for BC. We’re sad to see her leave, but thrilled for her as she heads out on a new adventure (hopefully in the #BikeAdvocacy space!) in North Carolina. Please join us in wishing her well!
