The Rad Dirt Fest

September 28, 2024

Deep in the Southern Colorado plateau lies an untouched plethora of gravel unlike any other. The towering Spanish Peaks and expansive mesas serve as the backdrop for the 3 unique courses of the ‘Rad Dirt Fest.  The courses are all more than 90% maintained, gravel roads and mostly rolling routes. It is all really scenic and unlike any other region in Colorado! Don’t be fooled though….the elevation and climbing will humble you, especially on the longer ride! We mean it when we say you’ll truly become one with nature out on these courses and see an abundance of wildlife! Jump in and see for yourself, it’s gonna be ‘Rad.

The Rad is an experiential event. It’s not just a race- it’s a weekend full of festivities and camaraderie with fellow cycling enthusiasts. The weekend consists of shake out rides and other cycling activations, a vibrant finish festival, live music, and after-parties throughout town.

Partners and Supporters

The town of Trinidad comes together to help support this event, and a lot of locals lend a hand whether it’s through volunteering (they had a local marching band volunteer out on the course last year to pump up riders), hosting after-parties, playing music at our finish fest, creating the awards (they work with local artists), providing coffee and donuts for our shake out rides, offering special deals to our athletes during the weekend, and more. Trinidad is full of local artists and musicians, and a big theme you’ll notice at The Rad is art and music. The winners of Stubborn Delores get real, hand-painted guitars. Other awards include painted vinyl records and mini wooden guitars.

We’re thrilled to see so many people out enjoying (and often rediscovering the joy of) riding a bike right now, and we’re asking ALL bicyclists to do their part to prevent the spread of #covid19 by wearing a mask or other face covering when out for a ride. Doing so keeps you, your loved ones, those around you, and all Coloradans safer while helping reduce stress on our medical system. If you still need a mask, click the link in our bio to pre-order one now and support our advocacy work! Thanks so much to everyone who has already purchased, and to @primalwear for supporting our efforts over the years. Ride on.
  • #BicycleColorado volunteers and staff members spent time today helping @denverurbangardens and @denverfoodrescue deliver “Grow a Garden” food boxes to home-bound families in Denver—via bike! Supporting our community on two wheels makes for a great way to spend a sunny day. Many thanks to our friends @ddchen47, David M., and @juggernautcargo for your help! Head to denverfoodrescue.org or dug.org to learn more about these great local organizations. #rideyourbike
  • Tonight the #BicycleColorado team celebrated Stacey, our outgoing Development Director, with a virtual happy hour. Stacey has been an absolute rockstar for BC. We’re sad to see her leave, but thrilled for her as she heads out on a new adventure (hopefully in the #BikeAdvocacy space!) in North Carolina. Please join us in wishing her well!
