VeloSwap: Colorado’s annual treasure hunt

Time to mark your calendars, bike fans and gear junkies, because in one week’s time Subaru VeloSwap—the world’s largest buy, sell and recycle bicycling and sports expo—will be here! The event takes place on Saturday, October 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Denver’s National Western Complex. No matter if you are there to clear your garage, fill your garage, or geek out with like-minded adventurists, this is an event not to be missed.

Of course, grand expos at this scale can be hard to navigate. With so much to do in only a day’s time, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the hustle and bustle. Here are some helpful tips to make sure this year’s VeloSwap is a personal success.

The early bird gets the worm

  • A choice of snazzy Bicycle Colorado socks or a pint glass
  • Special VIP treatment at Bicycle Colorado’s indoor “members’ lounge”

Hundreds of booths will be offering new, used, vintage and rare bicycle gear for sale. Bountiful boxes will be overflowing with parts and accessories galore. Get ready to sort, dig and shop ’til you drop. If you are in the market for a bike, cycling presentations and sports clinics are offered throughout the day to help you test, fit and maintain your dream bicycle.

For even more awesome bike related merchandise at bargain prices, make sure to stop by Bicycle Colorado’s indoor booth! We will be offering stylish jerseys and t-shirts at discounted prices, as well as “Share the Road” license plate certificates.

Do a good deed

If you aren’t ready to set up shop and sell your own collection, this is a chance to donate any and all unwanted parts, clothing and accessories. General donation boxes will be up front, or you can donate directly to a local partner of your choice.

For more information on how to get involved in the local bicycle community, stop by our booth to speak with our staff and volunteers. We will have bike maps available and information about upcoming efforts and how to get involved. If you missed your chance to sign up for membership outside, you can sign up anytime inside too.

Don’t shop hangry

Keep your head in the game by staying hydrated and fed. Concession stands throughout the expo will help ease those hunger pains. Remember to bring cash, and wear comfortable shoes too!

Take a load off

New and current Bicycle Colorado members will get special treatment this year as a thank you for all your support. Two talented massage therapists from The Integrative Health Studio will be offering free shoulder massages at our booth as a relaxing treat.

The Velo Lounge is back

Grab a beer or coffee at the Velo Lounge located near the front entrance. Make new friends or chum it up with like-minded outdoor enthusiasts to wrap up a full day of fun!

We’re thrilled to see so many people out enjoying (and often rediscovering the joy of) riding a bike right now, and we’re asking ALL bicyclists to do their part to prevent the spread of #covid19 by wearing a mask or other face covering when out for a ride. Doing so keeps you, your loved ones, those around you, and all Coloradans safer while helping reduce stress on our medical system. If you still need a mask, click the link in our bio to pre-order one now and support our advocacy work! Thanks so much to everyone who has already purchased, and to @primalwear for supporting our efforts over the years. Ride on.
  • #BicycleColorado volunteers and staff members spent time today helping @denverurbangardens and @denverfoodrescue deliver “Grow a Garden” food boxes to home-bound families in Denver—via bike! Supporting our community on two wheels makes for a great way to spend a sunny day. Many thanks to our friends @ddchen47, David M., and @juggernautcargo for your help! Head to denverfoodrescue.org or dug.org to learn more about these great local organizations. #rideyourbike
  • Tonight the #BicycleColorado team celebrated Stacey, our outgoing Development Director, with a virtual happy hour. Stacey has been an absolute rockstar for BC. We’re sad to see her leave, but thrilled for her as she heads out on a new adventure (hopefully in the #BikeAdvocacy space!) in North Carolina. Please join us in wishing her well!
