1st Bolder Boulder Qualifier of the year!

Old Man Winter Rally

SUNDAY FEB 9, 2020

The Old Man Winter Rally was created to be THE multi-sport winter event. With two bike courses and a one-of-a-kind running course, there is plenty of winter adventure for all runners and cyclists.

Cycling

It is the one and only winter cycling festival that brings Boulder’s best riding to cyclists of all levels. From quiet country roads to rugged mountain canyons, we’ve got the distance and the terrain you’re after.

  • The 50km route tours some of the scenic, rolling terrain that has made Boulder County, CO one of the country’s most popular gravel riding destinations.
  • The 100km ride starts with the same country riding as the 50km course before sending cyclists on a roller coaster route of climbs and descents through the snow-filled canyons west of Boulder.

Running

  • The 10km run will take you out and back in a Red Rock canyon that incorporates sections of the ever-popular Picture Rock Trail and “Lyons Fruit Loops”. It’s truly a “Best of Lyons’ course with big views, minimal elevation gain, and mixed terrain.

Swag

You’re going to love the custom gear that we’ve developed with Rapha and Boco Gear! We have a VERY limited edition longsleeve jersey available along with 3 different caps to suit your style. Back by popular demand, Merino Wool socks are available too! You can order any of these items when you register to run or ride.

CYCLING COURSES

The 100km course is a challenging mixed terrain route including rolling gravel roads, classic Boulder County climbs, fast tarmac, and the infamous Rowena Trail. Rowena connects Lefthand Canyon to Sunshine Canyon and is a 2 mile stretch of historic gold mining railroad line. It always covered with snow in the winter, so you’ll need to plan accordingly when choosing your bike set up. The section of the course going through the City of Boulder is untimed, so your total time will be a combination of your time from Lyons to the top of Sunshine Canyon and your time from the bottom of Linden back to Lyons. You’ll definitely earn your Sufferfest beer and hot chili after taking on this course!

The 50km course is a tour of some Boulder County’s best riding, including non-technical gravel riding and scenic views of the Rocky Mountains. There is enough rolling terrain to make the course challenging, but no major climbs. The aid station at Butter Ranch will be warm you up and keep you fueled  before the last stretch back to Lyons, where the after party awaits!

The Latest News

  • DON’T DELAY: We’re placing another order for #BicycleColorado masks made by our friends at @primalwear TOMORROW (5/14) at noon! Click the link in our bio to get yours now!

We’re thrilled to see so many people out enjoying (and often rediscovering the joy of) riding a bike right now, and we’re asking ALL bicyclists to do their part to prevent the spread of #covid19 by wearing a mask or other face covering when out for a ride. Doing so keeps you, your loved ones, those around you, and all Coloradans safer while helping reduce stress on our medical system. If you still need a mask, click the link in our bio to pre-order one now and support our advocacy work! Thanks so much to everyone who has already purchased, and to @primalwear for supporting our efforts over the years. Ride on.
  • #BicycleColorado volunteers and staff members spent time today helping @denverurbangardens and @denverfoodrescue deliver “Grow a Garden” food boxes to home-bound families in Denver—via bike! Supporting our community on two wheels makes for a great way to spend a sunny day. Many thanks to our friends @ddchen47, David M., and @juggernautcargo for your help! Head to denverfoodrescue.org or dug.org to learn more about these great local organizations. #rideyourbike
  • Tonight the #BicycleColorado team celebrated Stacey, our outgoing Development Director, with a virtual happy hour. Stacey has been an absolute rockstar for BC. We’re sad to see her leave, but thrilled for her as she heads out on a new adventure (hopefully in the #BikeAdvocacy space!) in North Carolina. Please join us in wishing her well!
