Old Man Winter Rally

Events happening from February 6 to February 14, 2021

The Old Man Winter Rally was created to be THE multi-sport winter event. With two bike courses and a one-of-a-kind running course, there is plenty of winter adventure for all runners and cyclists.

You’ll have between February 6 – 14th to complete your registered race on our iconic courses.

Riders can choose 50km or 100km of dirt, snow, climbs, and thrills. It is the one and only winter cycling festival that brings Boulder’s best riding to cyclists of all levels. From quiet country roads to rugged mountain canyons, we’ve got the distance and the terrain you’re after. The 50km route tours some of the scenic, rolling terrain that has made Boulder County, CO one of the country’s most popular gravel riding destinations. The 100km ride starts with the same country riding as the 50km course before sending cyclists on a roller coaster route of climbs and descents through the snow-filled canyons west of Boulder.

Runners can crush the 10km course that provides the best of Lyons, CO– single-track trails, Red Rock Canyon, and gravel paths. The 10km run will take you out and back in a Red Rock canyon that incorporates sections of the ever-popular Picture Rock Trail and “Lyons Fruit Loops”. It’s truly a “Best of Lyons’ course with big views, minimal elevation gain, and mixed terrain.

We’ll have aid stations with great food and hydration on course during the weekends. All participants will receive a ticket for a hot meal and a cold beer in Lyons. Everyone can compete and celebrate their adventure in a way they are comfortable!

Registrants receive thermal arm warmers, neck gaiter, and a hot meal and cold beer.

Bike Courses

The 100km course is a challenging mixed terrain route including rolling gravel roads, classic Boulder County climbs, fast tarmac, and the infamous Rowena Trail. Rowena connects Lefthand Canyon to Sunshine Canyon and is a 2 mile stretch of historic gold mining railroad line. It is always covered with snow in the winter, so you’ll need to plan accordingly when choosing your bike set up. You will then decend a twisty gravel road and hit the end of the 1st timed section. You will NOT be timed going down Sunshine Canyon or through the City of Boulder so take as much time as you want to get down the canyon safely and recover. The 2nd timed segment starts as you start up Linden, the 1st of two punchy climbs. Once you hit the top old Old Stage Rd, it’s pretty flat for the final 20 miles on the gravel roads back to Lyons. You’ll definitely earn your beer and hot chili after taking on this course! Click here to see more on the 100km bike course.

This course is a tour of some Boulder County’s best riding, including non-technical gravel riding and scenic views of the Rocky Mountains. There is enough rolling terrain to make the course challenging, but no major climbs. The aid station at Butter Ranch will be warm you up and keep you fueled before the last stretch back to Lyons. For those that ride AND run, this is the course that is the bike portion of the Run/Bike Combo. Click here to see more on the 50km bike course.

“SNOW FLAKE” Prizes – EXCLUSIVE to the Old Man Winter Rally! Along the course will be ‘Snow  Flakes’ which you can pick up for a guaranteed prize. Check out our awesome 2021 prizes.

That’s right  – one lucky participant! You must be present at the after party to win Snow Flake prizes – you can pick them up when you finish. Limit one snow flake prize per person.

Bicycle Colorado

The Bicycle Colorado team had a great time at the Denver Century Ride this weekend. We're glad we got to make good…

Come down to @veloswap on 11/6 to get great deals on all things bicycling. Shop, enter to win giveaways & a raffle,…

  • Share and tag your bicycle images
  • DON’T DELAY: We’re placing another order for #BicycleColorado masks made by our friends at @primalwear TOMORROW (5/14) at noon! Click the link in our bio to get yours now!
We’re thrilled to see so many people out enjoying (and often rediscovering the joy of) riding a bike right now, and we’re asking ALL bicyclists to do their part to prevent the spread of #covid19 by wearing a mask or other face covering when out for a ride. Doing so keeps you, your loved ones, those around you, and all Coloradans safer while helping reduce stress on our medical system. If you still need a mask, click the link in our bio to pre-order one now and support our advocacy work! Thanks so much to everyone who has already purchased, and to @primalwear for supporting our efforts over the years. Ride on.
  • #BicycleColorado volunteers and staff members spent time today helping @denverurbangardens and @denverfoodrescue deliver “Grow a Garden” food boxes to home-bound families in Denver—via bike! Supporting our community on two wheels makes for a great way to spend a sunny day. Many thanks to our friends @ddchen47, David M., and @juggernautcargo for your help! Head to or to learn more about these great local organizations. #rideyourbike
  • Tonight the #BicycleColorado team celebrated Stacey, our outgoing Development Director, with a virtual happy hour. Stacey has been an absolute rockstar for BC. We’re sad to see her leave, but thrilled for her as she heads out on a new adventure (hopefully in the #BikeAdvocacy space!) in North Carolina. Please join us in wishing her well!
