Karen Hornbostel Memorial Time Trial at Cherry Creek State Park #5

Wednesdays – March 27 to May 8, 2024

Since 1991, the KHMTT has taken place Wednesday evenings in Cherry Creek State Park in early spring, making it one of longest continuously run events in the country. The dates for 2024 are March 27, April 3, April 10, April 17, April 24, May 1, and May 8.

The course begins at the edge of the Cherry Creek Reservoir, winds through the wetlands southeast of the reservoir, and crosses back and forth the small creeks that supply the water for the reservoir.

Never raced before? This is a great opportunity to give it a try! Learn more about the “Never Evers” (First Timers) category here.

The Course

Mission: Nonprofit Partners & Beneficiaries

The KHMTT series is a fundraiser for Cancer Fitness Institute in memory of Karen Hornbostel, a four-time masters national road champion who battled metastatic breast cancer for over 13 years yet courageously pioneered a fitness program for cancer patients that started what is today the Cancer Fitness Institute.  Her work is still making a difference today in the quality of the lives of thousands of cancer survivors. The COBRAS and the KHMTT are proud to be able to contribute to this worthwhile program.

This event is also a contributor to Bicycle Colorado – our state-wide bike advocacy non-profit. Learn more here: https://khmtt.com/bicycle-colorado/

The KHMTT holds a safety record second to none in large part because of our many volunteers and supporters assisting racers, monitoring motor vehicles, and directing traffic. With our variety of positions available the COBRAS will train and equip you with everything you need to be successful. (Race marshals must be at least 16 years old). There are three ways to participate:

-Race free of charge in exchange for volunteer hours (“Race for Free”)
-Work for a monetary stipend* (“Paid”)
-Volunteer without compensation

The overall results from this series will be included in the 2024 Rocky Mountain Road Cup season-long points competition.

We’re thrilled to see so many people out enjoying (and often rediscovering the joy of) riding a bike right now, and we’re asking ALL bicyclists to do their part to prevent the spread of #covid19 by wearing a mask or other face covering when out for a ride. Doing so keeps you, your loved ones, those around you, and all Coloradans safer while helping reduce stress on our medical system. If you still need a mask, click the link in our bio to pre-order one now and support our advocacy work! Thanks so much to everyone who has already purchased, and to @primalwear for supporting our efforts over the years. Ride on.
  • #BicycleColorado volunteers and staff members spent time today helping @denverurbangardens and @denverfoodrescue deliver “Grow a Garden” food boxes to home-bound families in Denver—via bike! Supporting our community on two wheels makes for a great way to spend a sunny day. Many thanks to our friends @ddchen47, David M., and @juggernautcargo for your help! Head to denverfoodrescue.org or dug.org to learn more about these great local organizations. #rideyourbike
  • Tonight the #BicycleColorado team celebrated Stacey, our outgoing Development Director, with a virtual happy hour. Stacey has been an absolute rockstar for BC. We’re sad to see her leave, but thrilled for her as she heads out on a new adventure (hopefully in the #BikeAdvocacy space!) in North Carolina. Please join us in wishing her well!
