Golden Gran Fondo

The popular Golden Gran Fondo features 90-, 63-, and 20-mile routes, a timed climb up Lookout Mountain for all groups, and a finish line party in Parfet Park in downtown Golden, CO. Click here to register today!

The Course

The Golden Gran Fondo will take racers on a historic Rocky Mountain circuit. The start of the event traces the route of the inaugural USA Pro Cycling Challenge up Lookout Mountain. The course then continues it’s tracing of historical bicycle racing with a long climb towards the continental divide and some of the same roads used in the Coors Classic and featured in the movie American Flyers (Kevin Costner’s classic cycling film that was set in Golden).

Cyclist at the Golden Gran Fondo

Rocky Mountain cyclists know finding water, food, and bathrooms are some of the biggest challenges to riding the best mountain routes. With fully-stocked and staffed aid stations – including bathroom facilities – the Golden Gran Fondo makes a challenging, mountainous route with 9,000 feet of climbing accessible.

Gran Fondo National Series

Part of the Gran Fondo National Series (GFNS), the Golden Gran Fondo offers timed-segment racing for riders who choose to push themselves or compete with others. Instead of a start-to-finish time, riders’ competitive results are based on their combined times through specific timed segments. This award-winning format provides cyclists with the ability to regroup with friends, stop at aid stations, and enjoy the incredible views without worrying about the pressure of losing time.

Wildlife spotting at the Golden Gran Fondo

As with all GFNS events, there are multiple ways for cyclists to win at the Golden Gran Fondo. In addition to overall men’s and women’s winners, there will be age group competitions and a team competition. Riders don’t have to compete to win, though. All riders are eligible for valuable raffle prizes at the finish line party, including a 4-night stay at Garda Bike Hotel in Italy, a pair of Shimano S-Phyre cycling shoes, a Wahoo Fitness smart trainer, BikeFlights travel voucher, and much more.

Come out and ride a fun and challenging route through the mountains on June 28. The Golden Gran Fondo is a classic Colorado event that has something for everyone.

This is a 2020 Gran Fondo National Series event. Fully stocked aid stations to keep you going. Ride with your friends, Race with your friends!

This event is open to all from beginner to elite. To advocate for and promote youth cycling, any rider under 23 may register for $23. Riders under 23 can register by using the coupon code U23@GFNS (note: all riders will show photo ID at check in).

The Super Gran route is 90 miles, the Medio route is 63 miles, and the Piccolo route is 20 miles.

  • #BicycleColorado supporter FattE-Bikes is offering a holiday promo for new bike buyers now through Thanksgiving weekend! If you’ve been thinking about getting either a fat bike or an e-bike, now’s the time to do both (and support a local Colorado business while you’re at it)!

I left at 31 ° this morning. Contrary to what I have believed my entire life, you can ride a bike at that temperature. However, I miss having hair, because 31 degrees, going ~25 mph down a hill, is really cold when it goes through the helmet and hits the bald head. @bicyclecolo #bicyclecommute #lesscars
  • #BicycleColorado staffers spent part of the afternoon with @denverparksrec experiencing riding on adaptive bikes, including hand cycles and recumbent bikes. We are firm believers in #experientiallearning, and we were grateful to gain some first-hand knowledge about this kind of riding. Plus, it was really fun!
