Smart Cycling is a comprehensive course for bicycle riders who want to feel safer while riding and commuting on roads around our area. Bicyclists will learn to ride their bikes like vehicles on roadways and will learn a set of rules and concepts that help you ride more effectively and safely as you build confidence. This course is open to people age 14 and over who already know the basics of how to ride a bike. This course will be split into two sessions held from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 7, and Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the Durango Transit Center. The first session will be a classroom session, and the second will be an on-bike session; they are designed to be taken as a pair, sequentially. This registration is for the Sept 14th on-bike portion. Participants should also register for the Sept 7 classroom portion.
Classes will be taught by Dr. Kaitlin Mattos, a League Cycling Instructor. Participants should come prepared with writing materials, paper, snacks, and water for the classroom session. For the on-bike session, participants should be prepared with a bicycle, helmet, sunscreen, water, and snacks. A limited number of loaner bicycles and helmets may be available for use upon request.
