Team Evergreen Cycling grants $50,000 to Bicycle Colorado

Funding will support bicycle safety education and represents a more than threefold increase from previous philanthropic giving to Bicycle Colorado

DENVER — Team Evergreen Cycling, the oldest and largest bicycle club in Colorado, recently granted Bicycle Colorado $50,000 to support their longstanding efforts to improve bicyclist safety and accessibility.

Bicycle Colorado, Colorado’s statewide advocacy organization focused on making Colorado a better, safer place to ride a bike, will use funding from Team Evergreen to support existing educational programming including Learn to Ride lessons for new riders of all ages, Safe Routes to School support for youth, Basic Bike Mechanics, and Confident Commuting courses. Funding will also support a new program in development called SHIFT Driving™, an interactive and digital supplemental driver’s education course to make our roads safer for everyone who uses them.

“We’re so grateful for the support of the great folks at Team Evergreen,” says Pete Piccolo, Bicycle Colorado’s executive director. “They’ve donated generously to nonprofits–including ours–for years, but taking their support of our work to the next level is a game changer for bicyclists and their safety statewide.”

“Bicycle Colorado supports cyclists, and we want more cyclists on the road,” says Jen Barbour, executive director of Team Evergreen Cycling. “Supporting these fantastic new and existing programs was an easy decision for us, and we’re excited to be a part of it.”

Bicycle Colorado’s education season kicks off in the spring, and more details will be available soon regarding SHIFT Driving™.

We’re thrilled to see so many people out enjoying (and often rediscovering the joy of) riding a bike right now, and we’re asking ALL bicyclists to do their part to prevent the spread of #covid19 by wearing a mask or other face covering when out for a ride. Doing so keeps you, your loved ones, those around you, and all Coloradans safer while helping reduce stress on our medical system. If you still need a mask, click the link in our bio to pre-order one now and support our advocacy work! Thanks so much to everyone who has already purchased, and to @primalwear for supporting our efforts over the years. Ride on.
  • #BicycleColorado volunteers and staff members spent time today helping @denverurbangardens and @denverfoodrescue deliver “Grow a Garden” food boxes to home-bound families in Denver—via bike! Supporting our community on two wheels makes for a great way to spend a sunny day. Many thanks to our friends @ddchen47, David M., and @juggernautcargo for your help! Head to denverfoodrescue.org or dug.org to learn more about these great local organizations. #rideyourbike
  • Tonight the #BicycleColorado team celebrated Stacey, our outgoing Development Director, with a virtual happy hour. Stacey has been an absolute rockstar for BC. We’re sad to see her leave, but thrilled for her as she heads out on a new adventure (hopefully in the #BikeAdvocacy space!) in North Carolina. Please join us in wishing her well!
