Energetic, fun crowd makes 2014 Gala a big success
On April 25, nearly 300 enthusiastic bicycling supporters joined us at the 2014 Bicycle Colorado Gala. We were blown away by the energy in the room this year.
“We hear from our supporters through the year about things they appreciate we’re doing, but there’s nothing quite like having a big group of people together in one room, rooting for better bicycling,” Dan Grunig, our executive director, says. “I think that’s what makes our gala a celebration and not just another auction for a good cause.”
We were pleased to have state legislators Sen. Andy Kerr and Sen. Greg Brophy and RTD Board Member Tom Tobiassen in attendance. Dan gave a special thanks Sen. Kerr for sponsoring this year’s Safe Routes to School Bill and to Sen. Brophy, who has been instrumental in many laws passed to protect bicyclists and all road users. This is his last year in the Senate due to term limits.
The night’s energy combined with stellar silent and live auction items and generous sponsors, leading to over $70,000 in donations this year. We are so grateful for everyone’s generosity.
The live auction was action-packed, with fierce bidding wars over the Giant, Spot Brand, Specialized, Salsa and New Belgium bikes. The “paddle raiser” got an extra boost with a challenge match from board members Sheri and Bill Barr. Thirty people met their challenge and took us over the paddle raiser’s goal. And, we were happily surprised when our friends at Campus Cycles showed up with a big check—a $3,000 donation.
Thanks to the 2014 Gala Sponsors, without whose support our celebration would not be possible:
