Bicycle Colorado rides with state road designers
At a Bicycle Facility and Design class at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) last week, Bicycle Colorado helped lead six bike rides for road engineers and planners from across the state to let them experience the difference of riding in various situations: bike paths, lanes, shoulders and no shoulders.
CDOT is educating state and local road designers on how to include the needs of people who bike and walk in road design, detailed in a new chapter on bicycle and pedestrian facility design in its Roadway Design Guide.
Thanks to CDOT for continuing to emphasize this focus on the needs of all road users by incorporating the ride into the class for the first time. The feedback from participants was very positive, and it was communicated that the ride was an effective way to convey information they’re also learning in the classroom. And a big thanks to our friends at Denver B-cycle for providing bikes.
